SCREEN Exhibits at Think Smart Factory 2019 in Kyoto

SCREEN Graphic Solutions, parent of SCREEN Americas, will participate in “Think Smart Factory 2019”, coming to the Miyako Messe Convention Center in Kyoto, Japan, November 11–13. SCREEN will stage demonstrations linking its high-speed roll-fed inkjet presses with post-processing systems and introduce several of its latest solutions for book and commercial printing. A wide array of related samples will be available and visitors will have a unique opportunity to experience the cutting edge of the printing business.

This exhibition will bring together leading manufacturers of digital presses and post-processing systems and introduce the technologies required to develop smart print manufacturing. A range of solutions will be featured, from MIS and W2P to post-processing systems that combine multiple vendors. SCREEN will present its latest smart-print manufacturing solutions, based on its EQUIOS platform. EQUIOS eliminates gaps between processes and automates overall print production by linking various types of software and devices from major solution providers.
The Truepress Jet520NX high-speed roll-fed inkjet press will make its international debut, featuring a monochrome option that enables throughput of up to 180 meters per minute. This will be connected inline with Horizon’s Smart Binding System and demonstrate an automated solution for variable perfect binding.
SCREEN will also highlight the Truepress Jet520NX’s advantages when linked with EQUIOS. Those include the ability to group and print various types of books by individual addresses, greatly improving efficiency from order receipt to sorting through final delivery. EQUIOS is able to transfer error data for printed materials from an inspection system installed in the engine to post-processing systems, allowing rejected items to be automatically removed during processing on the binding line.
A new model of the Truepress Jet520HD series of high-speed roll-fed inkjet presses will also be displayed, enabling the production of on-demand books and high-quality variable direct mail using offset coated paper. The Truepress Jet520HD can be linked to EQUIOS, as well as to post-processing systems provided by Horizon with a variety of those samples on display.
Samples will include richly colored, saddle-stitched booklets, pamphlets and tourist guides in various sizes and fold configurations, featuring sharp, eye-catching photos typically used for this type of media. Visitors are invited to inspect actual sample outputs produced by the above systems, whose outstanding capabilities help meet diverse commercial and publishing print needs.
Think Smart Factory 2019 will also debut the Simple Job Controller, a new function for EQUIOS, utilizing a redesigned GUI to enable easy operation from a tablet device. The software simplifies the execution of commands for job creation and output to CTP, allowing any operator to set up a prepress workflow. A hybrid workflow will also be demonstrated, featuring EQUIOS and a digital press supplied by Konica Minolta.
SCREEN will introduce its CTP Transporter lineup in Kyoto, too. These plate transfer automation systems eliminate all steps previously requiring manual operation and allow achievement of a fully automated CTP workflow. The range can be linked with EQUIOS to automate operations, including printing of job data onto plates, bending of plates for individual presses and sorting of plates. Together, these functions support comprehensive automation of plate transfer, processing and sorting. Note: This series is only available in Japan.
The Proof Jet F1100AQ will be another first for this event. This is a high-speed automated inkjet proofing system with the ability to output directly onto offset stock without an anchor coat. The highly anticipated model was released earlier this year. Samples printed using both the Proof Jet F1100AQ and an offset press will be displayed for comparison. The exhibit will allow visitors to inspect the new level of proofing now available with the latest technology. Note: This system is only available in Japan.
