Panasonic today announced that it has been named a 2015 CES Innovation Awards Honoree for the CX600 4K Ultra HD TV in the Eco-Design and Sustainable Technologies product category. Products entered in this prestigious program are judged by a preeminent panel of independent industrial designers, independent engineers and members of the trade media to honor outstanding design and engineering in cutting edge consumer electronics products across 28 product categories.
One of the primary technological advances found in the TC-50CX600U 4K UHD model is an LED panel using newly developed Wide Color Phosphor Technology that facilitate a winning combination of high efficiency and brightness along with a wide color space. In predecessor 4K Ultra HD models, expanding the color space created a major drop in light emission efficiency. However, by developing a new phosphor with RGB spectral characteristics, Panasonic has achieved dramatic energy savings of more than 40% in comparison with its 2014 4K Ultra HD models.
In addition to the new phosphor LEDs, electrical circuits have been redesigned to save energy, making it possible for even smaller screen size models to reduce their power consumption. Among the new design highlights:
Main SOCs: 4 pieces > 2 pieces
Number of overall parts: Reduced by more than 50%; (approximately 2,900 > 1,400)
Circuit power consumption: Approximately ½ (40 watts > 20 watts)
Number of printed circuit boards: Reduced from 3 PCBs to 1 PCB (PCB area approximately ½)
Beyond sizable energy savings, the TC-50CX600U delivers its vivid "wide color space" picture with a dazzling array of smart TV expanded functionality.
The prestigious CES Innovation Awards are sponsored by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)®, the producer of the International CES, the global gathering place for all who thrive on the business of consumer technology, and have been recognizing achievements in product design and engineering since 1976. Entries are evaluated on their engineering, aesthetic and design qualities, intended use/function and user value, how the design and innovation of the product directly compares to other products in the marketplace and unique/novel features present. Products chosen as CES Innovation Honorees reflect innovative design and engineering in some of the most cutting edge tech products and services coming to market.
